George Hotz the well known iPhone hacker and Comex too in the jailbreak community, has today won two awards for two different works.
Comex won an Pwnie Award for releasing the first iPad 2 jailbreak aka JailbreakMe 3.0, an untethered jailbreak for iPad 2.
Pwnie Awards reported:
Geohot, the most popular iPhone hacker who unlocked the iPhone in 2007, won an award of his own: an online music award for his rap song against what Sony did with him. George Hotz was sued by Sony for jailbreaking PS3 and allowing non-Sony-approved features onto the console. The case was later settled.
Comex won an Pwnie Award for releasing the first iPad 2 jailbreak aka JailbreakMe 3.0, an untethered jailbreak for iPad 2.
Pwnie Awards reported:
Comex exploited a vulnerability in the interpreter for Type 1 font programs in the FreeType library used by MobileSafari. This exploit is a great example of programming a weird machine to exploit a modern system. Comex used his control over the interpreter to construct a highly sophisticated ROP payload at runtime and bypass the ASLR protection in iOS. Furthermore, the ROP payload exploited a kernel vulnerability to execute code in the kernel and disable code-signing.
